DLA 2003 in Review
Happy New Year! New and continued services and events benefitted Dartmouth lawyers during 2003. The "hot text" links below include snapshots and links to more information. (more ... )
A Careers Panel in Hanover on January 17 drew a crowd of undergraduates to the Hopkins Center to hear a panel of Dartmouth Lawyers moderated by Lanny Kurzweil '75, plus a demonstration session of the Dartmouth Mock Trial Society judged by Liz York '94, and Jim Morse '62, currently an Associate Justice of the Vermont Supreme Court.
Park City, Utah was the scene of the Winter Ski and CLE on February 12-14, organized by Chris Toll '81.
The Annual Meeting was held in October 2004, an experimental shift from the traditional August meeting. Hanover was beautiful in the fall foliage, and Dan Winters '91 put together an excellent CLE program. At the Gala Banquet, President Wright's address on the "Four Freedoms of Higher Education" reviewed the history of the law of academic freedom from the Dartmouth College Case to the 2003 decisions of Grutter v. Bollinger and Gratz v. Bollinger, concerning admissions procedures at the Univ. of Michigan.
In time for Halloween, DLA added this weblog to its site, and invites members and friends to comment on postings or volunteer to be a regular author of spot news about members and the association. If you are interested, contact me: my contact info is in the Online Member Directory.
A November 5 luncheon honored Steven R. Volk '57, Chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston, at the Yale Club in New York. Funds raised by the luncheon support legal studies programs at Dartmouth.
Also in November, in recognition of hundreds of hours of volunteer service to DLA in organizing its winter Ski and CLE meetings, the Board of Directors elected Christopher Toll '81 to be the next President of the Dartmouth Lawyers Association. Chris will succeed Al Moncure '69 when Al's two-year term ends with the annual meeting in the fall of 2004.
Online Member Survey -- To allow DLA members to express views on past and future association activities and services, the College allowed DLA to use its online survey account with SurveyMonkey.com. The cumulative data for the ongoing survey is available to any member who takes the 10 minutes to complete it online.
The continued addition of online information and services led to continued growth in the number of visits to the DLA.org website, as shown in this Usage Graphic the last twelve months.

(Graphic is hard to read because it is slightly compressed ... click on "Usage Graphic" above for full size image)
Add your own remarks and to this and other postings in the DLA Weblog as we go forward into another great year in 2004. Just scroll down and fill in the Comments entry spaces below.
Happy New Year!
