October 16-18, 2008

2008 Annual Meeting

Washington, DC

Held for the first time in our nation's capital, our 2008 Annual Meeting will feature as Keynote Speaker Hon. Laurence H. Silberman '57 of the U.S. Court of Appeals, D.C. Circuit. Other speakers include Russ Granik '69, former Deputy Commissioner of the NBA, Ken Gordon '91, ESPN counsel, and Jacque Steinberg '88, New York Times columnist. Contact the Mariott Mayflower Renaissance Hotel by July 15 for the DLA room discount, identifying yourself as a DLA member. The event opens with a Reception Thursday, October 16th from 5-8 PM in the Colonial Room at the Mayflower honoring Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand '88, Dartmouth's first Alumnae Congressional Representative and other Alumni who have served in Congress. Online registration will be available after July 1 at DLA.org.

2008 CLE and Ski Meeting

Whistler, BC

The Feb 7-8, 2008 CLE and SKI Mid-Winter Meeting in Whistler, B.C. promises to be an experience to remember. The planning committee is working hard to bring members and their families a ski vacation and CLE program well worth the trip to British Columbia. The Meeting will be at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler, and includes activities for non-skiers as well as the usual ski activities and competitions. There are special programs for spouses and kids under 5. More details at DLA at Whistler.

 


May 4-5, 2007

2007 Annual Meeting

Hanover, NH

The 23rd Annual Meeting will be held in Hanover on May 4th and 5th. President James Wright and Prof Jere Daniel, Professor Emeritus and historian of the College, will welcome participants to the meeting. A lecture and seminar on Friday afternoon, "U.S. Legislative And Judicial Responses To Terrorist Threats," will include remarks by Professor Laura Donohue, Stanford Law School, a specialist in the Patriot Act. Saturday morning, a session on "Careers in the Law" will be open to undergraduates. Retired Vermont Supreme Court Justice Jim Morse '61 and New Hampshire Supreme Court Justice Dalianis will join our Saturday afternoon CLE panel "Crimes Against Humanity, Terrorism and International Law." At the closing banquet, Kenneth S. Yalowitz, Director of The John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding and former Ambassador to Belarus and Georgia will speak. The program is dedicated to the late President James Freedman, in recognition of his devotion to the law. More information in the News section on the home page.

2007 CLE and Ski

Breckenridge, CO

The 2007 CLE and Ski will meet February 16 - 19, 2007 at the Great Divide Lodge in Breckenridge, Colorado. Organizer Richard Merrill '73 has arranged a block of rooms in the Lodge that will be held only until December 15, 2006. He has arranged discounts on other hotels and rental condominiums in the area. DLA Midwinter Ski and CLE

Aspen Snowmass

Our 19TH MIDWINTER CLE AND SKI will convene at ASPEN SNOWMASS, the largest of the Aspen mountains, at 3500 acres, with plenty of snow for all abilities including tempting cruisers, funky terrain parks, scenic learning areas, and of course glades, moguls, and snowfields above treeline. There are lots of family activities, lessons and rentals, package deals, teen spots, art galleries, bars, restaurants, bookstores, and alternative outdoor activities. Bring the kids and grandkids (the babysitting program is famous), and your business colleagues and relatives. All are welcome at this DARTMOUTH LAWYERS ASSOCIATION event. Mid-Winter CLE and SKI Meeting

Heavenly Mountain Resort, South Lake Tahoe, California, Forest Suites Inn

The DLA will convene on the shore of Lake Tahoe only steps away from the new Heavenly Village and Gondola, and a short footpath away from the exciting nightlife and gambling action of the Stateline casinos. You can walk to the Gondola to ski Heavenly or catch one of the many ski resort shuttles to Squaw Valley or one of the other premier ski areas closeby. This year, our CLE Program will be coordinated by Ben Riley '79. The program will be a wide ranging look at the issue of "LEGAL ETHICS" in all its various settings. As in the past, we expect that CLE credit of 5-6 hours will be awarded by most states with mandatory CLE. We can assist with the pre- or post-approval process. February 16-18, 2004

Mid-Winter CLE and SKI Meeting

Wengen, Switzerland

The DLA's first European meeting will include a CLE topic "Doing Business in the EU" and will include European and US experts on topics relevant to both new entrants to the EU and experienced internationalists. Volunteers to help develop the program are welcome and should contact the organizer, Atty. John Manaras '67. The meeting will be held at the Hotel Regina in Wengen (www.Wengen.com), a car-free mountain village perched above the Lauterbrunen Valley and reached by cog railway. The hotel is holding a batch of rooms for four or seven night stays including breakfast and dinner each day. The rooms will be held only until mid-September, so book early, especially since the time overlaps some European vacation periods. 2003 Annual Meeting

The 2003 Annual Meeting will be held October 10-11 in 2003, instead of the usual August session. Banquet Speaker and CLE Panel to be announced. A block of rooms at the Hanover Inn will be reserved, but space is limited so book early. As always, children will be welcome, so plan to bring the whole family. The 2003 winter meeting was held February 14-16, in 2003. Banquet Speaker: Sandra Morrison of the Park City Historical Society on "Hard Rock and Hard Men: Park City's Colorful Mining History." CLE Program: "God and Law in Utah in the 21st Century." CLE Panelists: Atty. Raymond Scott Berry, Atty. Rodney R. Parker, Prof. Edwin B. Firmage, Atty. Stephen C. Clark, Utah Chief Dep. Atty. General Kirk Torgensen, and Atty. Rick Van Wagoner.

Career Panel in Hanover

Hanover, NH

DLA sponsored a panel discussion for students entitled "Careers and Opportunities in the Law" on January 17, 2003 in the Faculty Lounge of the Hopkins Center. Atty. Lanny Kurzweil '75 moderated a panel including Vermont Supreme Court Associate Justice Jim Morse '62, Atty. John Manaras '67, Atty. Liz York '94, Atty. Judy Reardon '80, Atty. Sam Hoar '77 and Atty. Jill Kschinka Blackmer '79. Following the career discussion, many panelists remained to observe and critique a mock trial performed by the Dartmouth Mock Trial Society.
